Where the Heart is, Texas, Kansas or Illinois?

Click on to enlarge picture So where does your heart live, what place do you call home? It's not a difficult question, but for those of us who had parents in the 60's and 70's who moved every 3-6 years, it can be a confusing question. Having been born in Texas and later having returned to stay, one might believe that Texas is where my heart lies. And still I feel that is not so. Illinois never felt like home, though it did provide a lot of memories and experiences. Kansas, Topeka in particular was perhaps the one place I truly felt was my "home", next to that would probably be Denver.

Kansas was where my dreams for the future began and where I met my true love for the first time. That is a hard thing to get over especially if your dreams came true. I miss Kansas with it's laid back life style, slow pace of daily activities and the mellow feeling of just coasting through life as opposed to speeding through it in a heart beat like it does in Dallas and Chicago. Springtime in Topeka was always so gentle and full of the smells of blossoming trees, bushes and flowers. It was ideal for a romantic young man as I was. It made life an adventure to cherish as compared to something one must survive when compared to Chicago.

Someday I will have to return.Click on to enlarge picture
